The South Korean tech giant took another blow when prosecutors began investigating its involvement in a corruption scandal that has seen the country's president impeached, and sought the arrest of the firm's de facto leader Lee Jae-Yong. In a statement, the group's flagship subsidiary Samsung Electronics said it posted operating profits of 9.22 trillion won (US$7.9 billion) during the October to December period.

The US Supreme Court has declined to hear the case of a man and his four wives -- stars of a reality TV show -- challenging a ban on polygamy in their native state of Utah. Domingo plans career-spanning LA Opera concert
Spanish legend Placido Domingo will highlight the Los Angeles Opera's upcoming season with a career-spanning concert and involvement in two productions, the company said. Domingo, who has been LA Opera's general director since 2003, will perform a concert on November 17 to mark 50 years since he first took the stage in the city's then new Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. LA Opera music director James Conlon will lead the concert that will bring in to-be-announced special guests.
