Russia said earlier on Tuesday that Russian and Syrian military planes had not launched air strikes on Aleppo since Oct. 18, contradicting reports that air strikes in some areas of the city had resumed on Saturday. Russia's Interfax news agency reported earlier that a "humanitarian pause" in Aleppo would be extended by three hours, but a defense ministry statement later clarified that extension related to a ceasefire on Oct. 20 and not to air strikes.

EU to extend Schengen border controls for three months

The EU introduced the emergency measures to cope with the migrant influx in 2015 The EU moved Tuesday to prolong border controls in the passport-free Schengen area for three months, missing an end-of-year deadline to scrap the emergency measures adopted to cope with last year's massive migrant influx. The European Commission, the European Union executive, said it recommended for "a period of a further three months" the extension of checks at the borders of Austria, Germany, Denmark, Sweden and non-EU Norway starting in November. The EU had said it wanted to restore full functioning with no border controls across the Schengen area -- which includes 22 EU countries as well as Norway, Iceland, Switzerland and Lichtenstein -- by the end of the year.

Trump vows to scrap Obamacare as costs to jump 25 percent

"Obamacare has to be repealed and replaced and it has to be replaced with something much less expensive for the people, otherwise this country is in even bigger trouble than everybody thought," the Republican presidential candidate said in at his golf course in Doral, Florida. The Department of Health and Human Services said in a new report that the big increase in insurance costs will be seen in the 38 states with federally-managed health care exchanges.
