Malaysian flight MH17 downed by Russian-made missile: prosecutors

FROM THE FILES - FLIGHT MH17By Toby Sterling and Anthony Deutsch NIEUWEGEIN, Netherlands (Reuters) - Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 was shot down by a missile fired from a launcher brought into Ukraine from Russia and located in a village held by pro-Russian rebels, international prosecutors said on Wednesday. The findings counter Moscow's suggestion that the passenger plane, en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur in July 2014, was brought down by Ukraine's military rather than the separatists. The conclusions were based on thousands of wiretaps, photographs, witness statements and forensic tests during more than two years of inquiries into an incident which led to a sharp rise in tensions between Russia and the West.

France wants U.N. resolution on Aleppo, force Russia's handBy John Irish PARIS (Reuters) - France's foreign minister said on Wednesday he was working to put forward a United Nations Security Council resolution for a ceasefire in Aleppo, and that any country that opposed it would be deemed complicit in war crimes. Speaking to lawmakers, Jean-Marc Ayrault accused Syria, backed by Russia and Iran, of carrying out an "all-out war" on its people, something that Paris could not sit by idly watching. "At this very moment, we are proposing to discuss a resolution to obtain a ceasefire in Aleppo," Ayrault said.
