Donald Trump's campaign has launched a nightly show on Facebook Live aiming to bypass "the media filter", as White House hopefuls sprint the final leg of a caustic race. Some 2,200 migrants rescued in Mediterranean, 16 bodies recovered
About 2,200 migrants were plucked to safety in the central Mediterranean in 21 rescue missions on Monday and 16 bodies were recovered, the Italian Coast Guard said. A statement said Coast Guard ships as well as fishing boats, merchant ships and vessels from humanitarian organisations took part in the separate operations under direction of the Coast Guard command in Rome. The central Mediterranean route between North Africa and Italy is a highly perilous one for migrants.
Kenyan president commutes all death sentences to life in prison
President Uhuru Kenyatta commuted all death sentences in Kenya to life jail terms on Monday, removing 2,747 convicts from death row in a nation that has not executed anyone for about three decades. In addition to commuting the sentences of 2,655 men and 92 women, Kenyatta also signed pardon warrants to release 102 long-term serving convicts, the presidential State House said. A mass commutation of prisoners on death row was last signed in 2009 by the then President Mwai Kibaki.
