The road to the middle class in Maine might not be paved with paper any longer. The accelerating decline of Maine's once-strong pulp and paper industry is a heavy blow for the state's workforce, which has relied on its mills for steady, well-paying jobs for generations.

WELLS - Erland Edward Coombs, 92, passed away peacefully Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014, at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough. He was born March 14, 1922, in Franklin, a son of Forest and Celia (Fernald) Coombs, He attended local schools and upon graduation worked in the woods with his father.
