Amazon triples profit, but shares slide
Online giant Amazon said Thursday its profits more than tripled in the third quarter, but shares fell as the rise was weaker than expected. Amazon extended its string of positive results after years of investments that produced little or no profit, helped by its cloud computing, streaming video and new products and services. It has been about a year since the California internet titan revamped its corporate structure, making Google's internet operations a division of Alphabet and putting units such as autonomous cars and internet service balloons in an "other bets" or "moonshots" category.
