Massive slide buries stretch of iconic California highway
A massive rockslide has buried a stretch of California's iconic seaside Highway 1 which had already been hit by a number of road closures caused by severe winter storms, state transportation officials said Tuesday. The slide on one of America's most picturesque highways took place on Saturday morning in a remote and largely uninhabited area known as Mud Creek. The road in that section of the highway had already been shut down before a million tons of earth came tumbling down from a hillside, burying a 1,500-foot (nearly half a kilometer) section of the highway, said Jim Shivers, a spokesman for the state's transportation agency.
Charging bear attacks hunter in terrifying encounter caught on video
A Canadian hunter is lucky to be alive after being attacked by a black bear. Richard Wesley was bow hunting near Fire River, Ontario, when he noticed a large black bear roaming nearby. At first, the bear seemed unfazed by Wesley's presence, but when the hunter makes a sound in an attempt to scare off the approaching bear, it charges. Wesley attempts to make as much noise as possible, and even punches the attacking bear in the face. The camera falls and the hunter returns just a few seconds later, visibly shook by the near death experience. "I should have shot a long time ago," Wesley says into the camera just seconds after the attack. Luckily, the hunter walked away nearly unscathed. "No wounds except a bruised elbow and ego where the bear threw me down," Wesley wrote on YouTube. "Genuinely happy that this was a non fatal or tragic outcome."
Fox News retracts Seth Rich conspiracy story as Hannity vows to press on
A controversial Fox News report about the death of a Democratic National Committee employee last summer ? a story that had fueled a conspiracy theory that rocketed across right-wing media, but reportedly embarrassed some of the network?s staffers ? was retracted by the network Tuesday afternoon. The report attempted to tie the death of data analyst Seth Rich ? who was shot in what Washington police believe was a botched robbery attempt ? to the leak of DNC emails to WikiLeaks, which began publishing them two weeks later. The implication, spelled out most directly by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, was that Rich had provided the emails and was assassinated in retaliation or as part of a coverup.
