Qualcomm to buy NXP for $38 billion in biggest chip deal
Smartphone chipmaker Qualcomm Inc agreed to buy NXP Semiconductors NV for about $38 billion in the biggest-ever deal in the semiconductor industry, making it the leading supplier to the fast-growing automotive chips market. The acquisition will also help Qualcomm, which provides chips to Android smartphone makers and Apple Inc , reduce its dependence on a cooling smartphone market. With the deal, Qualcomm is taking a big bet on the so-called Internet of Things (IoT), which enables everyday objects such as fridges and cars to communicate with each other.

New Jersey 'Bridgegate' judge delays closing arguments

(Reuters) - Closing arguments in New Jersey's "Bridgegate" trial were unexpectedly postponed by a day on Thursday because of an unspecified "legal issue" that must be resolved, the trial judge said. U.S. prosecutors in Newark had been scheduled to begin summing up the evidence against two former allies of Governor Chris Christie who are accused of orchestrating lane closures at the busy George Washington Bridge to New York City in September 2013 in an act of political retribution. U.S. District Judge Susan Wigenton told jurors to return on Friday morning for closing arguments, which are now expected to last into Monday.
